When I Am Here No Longer

When I Am Here No Longer

When I am here no longer
Grieve not for I am nothing
But if a memory of me comes unbidden
Haste you to that great oak
That has at times so gently guarded us
And spread its shady limbs above our souls
Then sit you down against that hoary wrinkled trunk
And view again those verdant fields
Where often dancing larks on wing set flight
And cautious deer do snuggle in swelling grass
And when winds warm whisper
Your ruddy cheek so tenderly kisses
Silent hold your remembrance of me within
And know that I am near
At last at peace beside you
And tear not that I am gone
When I am here no longer

Grey Atlantic Dawn

Grey Atlantic Dawn

Waves upon the wilding coast
Far flung spume of grey Atlantic
Scudding clouds, dark in fury
Over headland pass in haste
I stand alone
And watch the passion
Of sea, of sky
Of wind, of rain
Conjoined
In union
Of violence
Hurled
Upon Earth
Full mighty

Slow silent flows the river

Slow silent flows the river

Slow silent flows the river
Past willow, rush and grass
Mountain born
Snow fed
Aged now
Silt laden
Meandering, turgid
Giving of its being
As it passes
Heading onwards
Towards an ancient mixing
With wide Atlantic

A life reborn (Some thoughts at Tushielaw)

A life reborn (Some thoughts at Tushielaw)

Eagles cry, eagles haunt
Above moorland
Of grouse
And heather
And life
Myriad sheep trod paths
Lead me deeper
Into this delightful, deceptive freedom
On the edge
Of my existence
Fresh, cold, sharp winds
Buffet me
And roar
Deep gullies
In my soul
Cutting deep
They wound
And cleanse
And drive cobwebs
Long grown
From my being
And once again
I am me
And I am free
